Nick Mohammed Reflects on Magic Beginnings and “Celebrity Traitors” Chaos

Comedian and actor Nick Mohammed recently shared a fascinating look back at his early life, revealing how a deep passion for magic shaped his journey—long before his rise to fame on shows like Ted Lasso and Celebrity Traitors.

Born in Leeds in 1980, Mohammed discovered magic at just five years old and quickly became immersed in the craft. By his teenage years, he was already performing professionally at weddings, hotels, and restaurants—fully embracing what would become a lifelong love.

“Magic was my everything,” Mohammed recalls.

As a young performer, he was a member of the Northern Magic Circle and regularly attended conventions and competitions. Despite his natural talent and dedication, Mohammed admits he never truly believed a career in entertainment was realistic at the time.

His inspirations reflected a love of classic entertainers, including Torvill and Dean, Michael Crawford, French and Saunders, and Peter Kay. While Paul Daniels was an early influence, Mohammed credits Derren Brown as a major turning point—particularly through Trick of the Mind, which helped modernize mentalism for a new generation.

Although he pursued academics—studying geophysics at Durham University and beginning a PhD at Cambridge—it was his involvement with Footlights that ultimately pulled him toward performing full-time. That decision led to a successful career in comedy and acting, including standout roles in Ted Lasso, Taskmaster, and more.

More recently, Mohammed made headlines during his appearance on Celebrity Traitors (2025), where he reached the final but unintentionally handed victory to fellow comedian Alan Carr.

Reflecting on that time, he joked:

“Doing the school drop-off during Celebrity Traitors was crazy.”

Today, Mohammed continues to tour his stage show Show Pony across the UK, while balancing family life in South West London.

Despite stepping away from performing magic professionally, it remains a core part of who he is.

“I still read magic every day if I can,” he says.

Why This Matters to Magicians

Nick Mohammed’s story is a powerful reminder that magic doesn’t just create performers—it builds creative thinkers, storytellers, and entertainers across all industries. His journey from teenage magician to award-winning actor shows just how far those early passions can take you.
