Magic is heading underwater—well, almost.
Award-winning magician Jason Verners is set to bring his sleight of hand to an unforgettable setting as part of a special fundraiser at the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea. The event takes place Saturday, May 9, from 7 to 10 p.m., combining live magic with marine education for an evening that promises both wonder and purpose.
Proceeds from the night will benefit the centre’s Learning Fund, which helps provide ocean education programs for students and the community.
Verners, a seasoned performer with international theater tours, Las Vegas appearances, and even a standing ovation on Got Talent España, is no stranger to big stages. Locally, he’s entertained audiences at major events including Victoria Royals games, HarbourCats outings, and Sunfest. This time, however, he’ll be performing in a setting filled with sea life, bringing magic into an environment typically reserved for marine exhibits and coastal habitats.
Since opening in 2009, the Salish Sea Centre has welcomed more than 1.2 million visitors, offering hands-on experiences that inspire curiosity about ocean life. According to the centre’s leadership, there’s a natural connection between the wonder of marine ecosystems and the feeling audiences experience when watching great magic.
The fundraiser also aims to expand access to community programs such as youth education initiatives, themed events, and summer camps—ensuring more people can experience these “wow” moments both in and out of the water.
Guests attending the event will enjoy an upscale evening that includes drinks, locally prepared hors d’oeuvres, and chances to win door prizes—all while experiencing live magic in a truly one-of-a-kind venue.
And for at least one night, the mysteries of the ocean won’t be the only thing leaving audiences amazed—Verners’ magic is sure to have them asking the same question we all love:
“How did he do that?”
