A brand-new theatrical magic experience is hitting the road in the UK, blending illusion, comedy, and storytelling into one unforgettable show.
Rabbits Out of the Hat begins its 2026 tour with an opening performance at Jackson’s Lane in London on May 10, inviting audiences into a world where magic meets mischief in true vaudevillian style.
Created and performed by Magic Circle magicians Christopher Howell and Desireé Kongerød—known on stage as Norvil & Josephine—the production combines jaw-dropping illusions with live music, comedy, and even elements of circus performance. The result is a fast-paced, family-friendly show designed to entertain audiences of all ages.
Set in 1905, the story follows Norvil, a traditional magician, and his sister Josephine, his loyal assistant. But when Josephine becomes inspired by the suffragette movement, she begins to challenge her role—not just in the act, but in life itself. What unfolds is a humorous and heartfelt clash between the two, as both characters are forced to confront their identities, ambitions, and the expectations placed upon them.
While the show delivers plenty of visual magic and classic illusions, it goes deeper than a typical magic performance. At its core, Rabbits Out of the Hat tells a story about finding your voice and having the courage to step outside of tradition—something that resonates just as strongly today as it would have in the early 1900s.
The duo behind the show brings decades of experience to the stage, having performed together internationally since 2006. Their credits include appearances at prestigious venues such as the Magic Castle in Hollywood and the renowned Wintergarten in Berlin, along with theaters across the UK.
The production also features an impressive creative team, including music by composer Micah Young, direction by Martin McDougall and Abigail Dooley, and creative contributions from comedy writer Susan Earl and clowning specialist Ira Seidenstein. Magic legend Jeff McBride also lends his expertise as a consultant.
According to the creators, the show is more than just a collection of tricks—it’s a full theatrical experience. Beneath the spectacle of illusions and variety acts lies a deeper story about individuality, identity, and breaking free from expectations. Still, the pacing remains high-energy, ensuring audiences leave not just thinking—but smiling.
