A theater full of excited students recently experienced the perfect mix of education and entertainment as Mind Over Magic took the stage in Guam—proving that learning science can be just as thrilling as watching a magic show.
Around 150 students from Andersen Elementary School gathered at the Crowne Plaza in Tumon to witness the “Magic of Anthony Reed,” an interactive production that brings together the worlds of illusion and STEM education.
As the show began, lights dimmed, music filled the room, and smoke rolled across the stage—instantly capturing the attention of the young audience. What followed was a high-energy, hands-on performance that kept both students and teachers fully engaged from start to finish.
Anthony Reed, also known as “Professor Klutz,” has been performing Mind Over Magic for over a decade. This year’s version focuses on scientific principles such as misdirection, optical illusions, electrostatics, light refraction, and Bernoulli’s principle—showing how closely magic and science are connected.
According to Reed, the goal of the show is simple: make audiences think differently.
“Sometimes science looks like magic—and sometimes magic uses science to make the impossible happen,” he explained during the performance.
Throughout the show, students were encouraged to participate, with several invited onstage to assist in demonstrations. One standout moment involved teaching the concept of misdirection—a fundamental tool magicians use to control attention—by performing a clever trick involving a seemingly impossible egg transformation.
Parents in attendance praised the experience, noting how engaging and memorable it was for their children. Many expressed interest in returning for future performances.
Teachers also highlighted the educational impact. By taking classroom concepts and presenting them in a live, visual, and interactive environment, the show helps students better understand—and retain—what they’re learning.
For younger students especially, combining science with magic creates a powerful learning experience. The visuals, audience participation, and theatrical elements make complex ideas easier to grasp while keeping students excited and curious.
With its unique blend of education and entertainment, Mind Over Magic continues to prove that the best way to learn might just be through a little bit of wonder.
Tickets for upcoming performances are currently available, with special options for school field trips.
