Fans of comedy and magic are in for a treat this fall as Penn Jillette joins forces with Piff the Magic Dragon for a series of live performances across the United Kingdom.
The new show, Piff & Pop's Magic Shoppe, brings together two of magic's most recognizable personalities for an evening that promises equal parts laughter, storytelling, and illusion.
According to Penn, his friendship with Piff stretches back nearly two decades, beginning after Piff appeared on Penn & Teller's hit television series, Penn & Teller: Fool Us.
"There have been more than 400 magicians on the show," Penn joked, noting that only a handful became close friends afterward. He described meeting Piff as "love at first sight," saying he was immediately impressed by both the character and the performer behind it.
Unlike the carefully structured style audiences may associate with Penn & Teller, both performers described their new show as more spontaneous and unpredictable. Penn said the pair often find themselves going off on unexpected tangents, creating a more anarchic experience for audiences.
For Piff, the tour is also something of a homecoming. The London-born magician first found international fame after becoming a fan favorite on America's Got Talent before building a successful headlining career in Las Vegas. Over the past decade, he has performed more than 2,000 shows at the Flamingo Las Vegas.
Piff will also be bringing along his father, affectionately known as "Pop," for the tour. The magician joked that after years of performing in America, he's excited to show his father the best Britain has to offer while sharing stories from his unusual career.
The conversation also turned to Piff's famous canine sidekick, Mr. Piffles. Piff reaffirmed that the current Mr. Piffles is a cloned successor to the original dog, joking that the process was expensive enough to justify the need for a tour. Penn, meanwhile, laughed that he was participating for the fun of it rather than financial reasons.
While the pair exchanged plenty of jokes, they also reflected on their shared love of magic. Penn described magic as one of the most intellectual forms of entertainment, arguing that modern magicians create wonder not by claiming supernatural powers, but by encouraging audiences to think about perception, reality, and how we determine what is true.
The upcoming tour gives audiences a rare opportunity to see two of magic's most distinctive personalities sharing the stage. If their playful banter is any indication, fans can expect an evening filled with surprises, laughs, and a healthy dose of dragon-themed chaos.
