Asi Wind Brings More Than Magic to the Sydney Opera House

Prepare to witness something extraordinary. Award-winning Israeli magician and mentalist Asi Wind, now based in the United States, is set to make his long-awaited Australian debut with his immersive production More Than Magic at the world-famous Sydney Opera House.

Wind is no stranger to international acclaim. His performances have captivated audiences across India, Singapore, Japan, Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, and throughout Africa and South America. Off-Broadway, his groundbreaking show Inner Circle became a phenomenon, earning six extensions and more than 450 performances. He also enjoyed an impressive six-month run in London’s West End — a rare achievement in the world of modern magic.

Like many great magicians, Wind’s journey began early. At just 13 years old, he was introduced to magic by his uncle — a moment that would shape his future.

“I visited a magic shop for the first time and saw someone perform the vanishing handkerchief trick,” Wind recalled. “That moment amazed me. When I learned it myself and showed it to my friends, I realised magic wasn’t just about doing something cool — it gave me a huge boost in confidence. That felt just as magical as the trick itself.”

Audiences attending More Than Magic can expect an astonishing display of mental feats and visual illusions. Highlights include Wind solving two Rubik’s cubes simultaneously while blindfolded, memorising a deck of cards shuffled by the audience in under 30 seconds, and presenting a curated selection of effects drawn from his personal and professional repertoire.

For Wind, however, the goal extends beyond amazement.

“The most important thing for me is that the audience feels like they’re seeing real magic,” he said. “I want to remind people how incredible humans can be — especially now, when so much focus is on technology and AI. This show celebrates the power of the human mind.”

When asked which illusion typically leaves audiences asking, “How did he do that?”, Wind offered a refreshing answer.

“After every show, I ask people which trick was their favourite, and I always get different answers. I love that. It means each moment connects with someone in a unique way.”

Audience participation plays a central role in More Than Magic. Through suggestion, misdirection, and thoughtful interaction, spectators become active collaborators in the experience — helping transform the impossible into something that feels almost within reach.

“I see myself as a host,” Wind explained. “From the beginning, people know it’s going to be fun. The show only works because the audience is part of it — that’s where the real magic comes from.”

Australia marks the final frontier on Wind’s global performance map, making this tour especially meaningful. Performing at the Sydney Opera House adds another layer of significance.

“It’s incredibly special,” he said. “It’s my first time visiting Australia, and performing at such an iconic venue is a real honour. Every time I tell friends I’m playing the Sydney Opera House, they’re amazed.”

Designed for audiences aged 13 to 80 and beyond, More Than Magic appeals to seasoned magic fans and curious newcomers alike. Those who enjoy mystery, mentalism, and interactive entertainment will find themselves fully immersed in an unforgettable theatrical experience.

When asked what he hopes audiences take away from the show, Wind paused thoughtfully.

“I hope people leave thinking about how powerful the human mind truly is — and maybe feel inspired to discover their own kind of magic.”
