North East magician Chris Cross has added another remarkable accomplishment to his career by performing what is believed to be the first magic trick ever presented at the top of Grey's Monument in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Standing more than 120 feet above the city, Chris carried out the unusual feat at 11:40 a.m., transforming a spectator’s selected playing card into an image printed on a previously blank handkerchief.

The historic performance took place during one of the public tours organized by Newcastle City Guides, which gives visitors the rare opportunity to climb to the top of the iconic monument.
For Chris, the event was both a personal goal and a unique opportunity to combine his love of magic with his love for his hometown.
“I’ve always wanted to go to the top of Grey’s Monument,” he said. “It’s incredible to be doing new things in the city I love.”

Chris humorously noted that the trick may represent the first magical performance ever conducted at the summit of the monument.
He added, “I hope Earl Grey looking down enjoyed it! When I got home, I even had a cup of Earl Grey to celebrate.”
